This is a demonstration website. Kestrel Bindery is not a real company: the business, its address and its phone number are invented. It quotes no customers and has no social media accounts, on purpose. The site exists as a public test fixture for Indexonic, so that AI-visibility audits can be run against a realistic ordinary website.
What we do
Everything is done by hand at the bench. If what you have is not on this list, bring it in anyway — most of it is still binding.
Book repair
Reattaching boards, rebacking spines, resewing loose sections and replacing endpapers on books that are meant to be read rather than displayed.
From £45 per volumeFull rebinding
A book taken down to its sections, resewn and bound in cloth or leather, with the original spine laid back on where there is one worth keeping.
From £180Thesis and portfolio binding
Hard-bound in buckram with the title blocked in foil on the spine and front board. University specifications are followed to the letter.
From £38 per copyClamshell boxes and slipcases
Made to the book rather than to a stock size, in board and cloth, for anything that needs protecting on a shelf.
From £95Paper repair
Tear repair, deacidification and flattening for documents, maps and single leaves, using wheat starch paste and Japanese tissue.
Hourly, £42 per hourBlank books and journals
Sewn blank books in whatever paper you want to write on, singly or in small runs for shops and studios.
From £28What we do not do
We do not do print-on-demand, we do not do plastic comb or wire binding, and we do not touch anything where the right answer is a conservator with a lab. When that is the case we say so.
